Research & Development

and work-in-progresS

Slime and Pies want to develop their work to the highest standard possible.

Research and development projects are integral to expanding and exploring the work we create, collaborating with other creatives and actors in the room.

Rehearsed Readings or WIP shows give us the opportunity to test out projects in front of live audiences and gain invaluable feedback.

Below are some examples of our previous development processes:

In December 2022, Slime and Pies were awarded a week R&D of their namesake production, Kill The Second Coming With Slime and Pies by Ellen Bannerman at the Traverse Theatre.

The play was later shortlisted for the Charlie Harthill Award at the Pleasance Islington.

One week before the church nativity play. Two best pals, Chloe and Esme are in their local hangout spot, Stuarts (unofficial) Baptist Bakery, in Glenrothes, Scotland. Their usual routine of scoffing macaroni pies whilst dreaming of the future is interrupted by a positive pregnancy test. Chloe insists she’s still a virgin. Janette, the sole employee of Stuarts’ (unofficial) Baptist Bakery, convinces her that God has chosen her to give birth to the Second Coming.

Kill the Second Coming with Slime and Pies navigates 21st-century feminism and reproductive rights within a rural religious community.

The intervieW

In February 2023, we began development on Eleanor Roberts’ debut play, The Interview.

Eleanor and director Maddy Corner worked with actors Ramiah Smith and James Lee in workshopping the script.

The week culminated with two sold-out WIP shows at The Blue Elephant Theatre, receiving 5 star feedback from audiences being hailed as “an excellent and thought provoking piece that managed to consistently teeter on the line of drawing you in and maintaining a level of discomfort”

An interview is being held.

Dan has volunteered. The interviewer must be impartial.

As the process progresses, both Dan and The Interviewer realise that understanding why we do what we do, and how our brains have been influenced by the world around us, is no easy task.

The Interview is an absurdist two-hander that explores the insidious nature of sexual assault in our society. Join new company Slime & Pies for this work-in-progress by debut Playwright Eleanor Roberts.
