KNIT YOUR OWN BOYFRIEND

ABOUT THE PLAY

Knit Your Own Boyfriend is Slime and Pies’ current production; a new absurdist offering from Eleanor Roberts, directed by Maddy Corner.

In June 2024 the piece was selected to be workshopped as part of London Performance Studios’ Seeding Space residency.

In December 2024 we received funding from Arts Council England to carry out an R&D of the show with a focus on developing our practice of creative captioning. This culminated in 3 WIP shows at the Golden Goose Theatre.

PRACTICAL R&D

In December 2024 Knit Your Own Boyfriend underwent a practical research and development period, supported by Arts Council England.

We assembled an incredible creative team to develop the production, with a key focus on expanding our work Slime and Pies with creative captioning.

For a week and a half, with support of London Performance Studios and the Golden Goose Theatre, we experimented with different technical languages to widen our understanding of what creates truly equitable and creatively meaningful accessible theatre.

This culminated in a focus group of 7 caption users (including people who were d/Deaf, hard of hearing and neurodivergent) who provided us with feedback on what worked and what didn’t and shared their experiences with access in theatre. It proved and invaluable and enriching conversation, and one we will take with us to expand on our work with access and share our methods with the rest of the theatrical community.
