BY ELLEN BANNERMAN

Set in modern-day Edinburgh, this groundbreaking play blurs naturalism with the supernatural, taking us out of the ordinary and into a world that is spiritual, ancient and uncertain.

Integrated captions made this play accessible for d/Deaf and Hard of Hearing audiences.

As the play tackled issues of domestic abuse and femicide, we partnered with Advance, a local charity helping women and girls who are in domestic ally abuse situations.

As well as collecting donations for Advance, circulating key information through socials and our programme, we also held a post show Q&A with support workers from Advance where we discussed the issues explored in the play, how these related to their work, and held an open space for the audience to contribute.

"It’s often hard to convey any supernatural aspects within a show, but director Maddy Corner executes it without any over the top effects or unnecessary jump scares, she keeps it simple, yet effective, maintaining a level of tension filled unease throughout."

"Ellen Bannerman’s debut play Sima is certainly ambitious. What gives the work its undeniable momentum is Bannerman’s hugely economical style of writing”
